Happy New Year!
We hope you all have had a wonderful and safe holiday season and we look forward to what this next year brings for you. Here at Chicago Collegiate Nannies, we have a lot of great things on the horizon for 2016, and we want to start out the new year with a bang! Specifically, we want to make this first Nanny Tip of the Week to be about one of the most important pieces to the puzzle in a nanny/family relationship: YOU! Having all been nannies ourselves, we know how sometimes this job can be both incredibly rewarding and incredibly exhausting, so don't forget in the midst of a busy life as a nanny to take care of yourself because your well-being can make ALL the difference. Plus, if you are looking for some new year's resolutions, the following tips can be a great starting point for how to improve yourself in the new year!
1. If you haven't started a healthy lifestyle, start now! - I'll be the first to admit that I am terrible at keeping up with doctor's appointments and dentist appointments; but I can assure you, keeping up to date on your health is so critical (especially during cold/flu season). I believe a healthy nanny is a happy nanny and if you aren't feeling your healthiest, take that long overdue visit to your doctor or change your diet to help improve your quality of life this year!
2. Reconnect with your favorite ways to "unwind" - Life can get busy, am I right? Sometimes, we can get so wrapped up in the things we have to do that we forget when we NEED to decompress. Responsibility is key, but so is making time to relax and recharge. Whether that is going to that yoga class you keep putting off, spending an hour coloring in a coloring book or finally getting around to making that recipe you've been dying to try, intentionally work these types of things into your schedule (even if that means writing it down in your planner weeks in advance).
3. Find a good community and spend time with them - One of the most valuable parts of what makes Chicago Collegiate Nannies unique is our community of great nannies. We have Sitter Event nights regularly where we organize events for our nannies to come together, spend time with one another and share experiences. Our nannies love having a place where they can connect with other nannies in a fun and supportive environment and it makes us happy to be able to provide that for them. And if you don't have time, keeping up with a group text or email chain can also be a great alternative to seeing one another in person. Overall, if you haven't found a great community, make this the year to join and be a part of one!
So, be sure to take some time to reflect on what changes you want to make for yourself this year and make them happen! We would also love to hear what you find recharges and fulfills you so please share what those are with all of our readers. Thanks for reading and we will see you next week!
